Rhabdomyosarcoma
Sophie was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in September 2020 and she had a 12cm tumour in her abdomen. She went through major surgery, nine rounds of aggressive chemo, 31 sessions of radiotherapy and was on maintenance chemo for only eight weeks when she sadly relapsed.
Sophie's frail body couldn't withstand the aggressive chemo needed but we tried a chemo to try and build time but sadly it didn't work and Sophie died at home on 18th September 2021 aged 10.
Sophie discovered her artist skills during her treatment. She was so bored stuck in hospital so would paint or draw. Sophie painted ceramics and raised £6000 to buy toys and activities for children in hospital. Since Sophie's death the community built a purpose built art studio at her school so that hundreds of children can benefit from art lessons and art therapy.
