Rhabdomyosarcoma
Off treatment
Jamie is a happy-go-lucky little boy who had just started school age 4 when the lump above his right eye, which had developed very quickly, was diagnosed as orbital ERMS Rhabdomyosarcoma. His treatment was carried out in Edinburgh, Dundee and Essen in Germany where he received proton beam therapy. His treatment ended in February 2022 and his MRI scan in April showed he was cancer free. We are delighted and hugely relieved. He coped so well with the gruelling treatment.
Jamie loves to draw. In particular maps. Drawing was one of the few things he could do comfortably while on treatment and I believe it took his mind off the way he was feeling. He draws every day and it is a fantastic way for him to express himself. The love of maps is a bit of a mystery but he loves to watch the satnav in the car to see where the 'blue line' leads... and he seems to retain immense amounts of detail. Almost photographic. His maps are usually in some way accurate!
