Angus Olsen
ARTIST ADVOCATE
Angus Olsen created idrawchildhoodcancer.com after his daughter Jane was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma when she was two years old. Thankfully, Jane is currently in remission. While living in hospital with Jane, Angus drew to communicate the things about cancer that there are no words for.
Angus lives in Katoomba, Australia with his family and runs CafeXpresso. In-between making coffee for customers, Angus creates visual resources for children and their families facing childhood cancer. His powerful and emotive work has been translated into many languages and shared around the world.
Angus drew 'Rocket Ben' for Ben Crowther - "Ben gave me advice for my books, the only child to have ever done so. He felt I should include the awfulness of nasal gastric tube insertion in my next revision of “My N.G. Tube”. Ben taught me if I’m truly creating for children in the nightmare and not for people outside of it I mustn’t be afraid to draw the hard things. They must see this isn’t unique to them, that our children aren’t alone."
